Philadelphia

14° wind chill -1.4°. Civil twilight. 6:59am awakened by flashing light pre-recorded call for evacuation due to fire from my hotel room 1010 in the Warwick Hotel. Is the cause a malfunctioning fire detector? Taking time to dress warmly, grab a necklace from Ulf and ipad pro. Leaving behind my favorites to wear work boots and join a calm polite stream of folks down flights of stairs. Some in bedclothes, sans shoes or slippers when a door opens onto the street. Freezing winds. Doors into the lobby opened minutes later. Where I remain watching, filming emergency crews (15 fire engines) navigate glass revolving doors that hotel staff fail to switch modes. Word passes the cause in an upper floor residence. I can’t find the necklace in my bag .... nor anywhere after a return to my room.

Only a few degrees warmer (19.4° wind chill 6.2°) as I enter the Philadelphia Museum of Art (11:29 am) to revisit the work of art that changed my life at four: Duchamp’s The Large Glass.
